Carlos Escobedo (Sôber) — A leading figure in Spanish rock

Carlos Escobedo (Madrid, 23 February 1975) is one of the most powerful and respected voices in alternative rock and metal in Spain. His musical career began at a very young age, influenced by his family environment, which led him to play bass from the age of 14 and to teach himself during his early musical career.

Escobedo is especially known for being the founder, vocalist, bassist, and main composer of Sôber, a band that has marked a turning point in the Spanish rock/metal scene thanks to iconic albums such as Paradÿsso (2002)—a huge commercial and critical success—and Reddo (2004). His style has fused elements of metal and alternative rock with intense melodies and profound lyrics, making Sôber one of the most influential bands of recent decades.

After Sôber’s hiatus in 2005, Carlos explored new horizons with Savia, a personal project that allowed him to experiment with freer sounds within alternative rock. He has also worked as a producer, collaborating with other artists on the national scene, demonstrating his versatility both on and off stage.

In recent years, Escobedo has developed a solo career, offering more intimate concerts under the concept ‘En Estado Puro’ (In Pure State) in which he revisits classics from Sôber, Savia and other musical influences, as well as releasing his first solo album Solitud (2025). This more personal and intimate approach demonstrates his constant artistic evolution and his deep connection with his audience.

Carlos Escobedo has not only defined the sound of a generation of Spanish rock, but continues to innovate and reinvent himself, keeping the essence of his music alive through multiple projects and collaborations.

Sounds with soul

admira: What moment or song do you consider key in your musical career and why?

Carlos: Rather than a specific moment, I would say that there was a stage when I began to understand music as a space of truth, not just as a form of expression. Songs that were born out of necessity, discomfort or contradiction marked a before and after. That’s when I understood that when a song is honest, it connects regardless of time or context.

admira: What advice would you give to young guitarists or bassists who are starting out in the world of rock?

Carlos: Listen a lot, play even more, and don’t rush. Rock isn’t about showing off, it’s about telling a story with your own identity. Technique is important, but what really leaves a mark is finding your voice, your way of playing and feeling the instrument. And above all, perseverance.

admira: What would you like to highlight about the Admira Crossover, Artisan Series?

Carlos: I would highlight the balance between tradition and versatility. It is an instrument that respects craftsmanship and materials, but at the same time adapts to more contemporary styles. This combination makes it very comfortable, solid and with a personality that can be felt from the very first chord. I would also particularly highlight the preamp, which provides a very natural and defined response.

admira: Let’s get creative… What would your ideal guitar be like that doesn’t exist yet?

Carlos: It would be a guitar that breathes with you, that reacts almost like an extension of your body. Lightweight but with a warm sound and character, capable of moving between subtlety and aggression without losing its identity. An instrument that doesn’t impose itself, but accompanies you.
