Muchachito Bombo Infierno: rumba with street soul
From the streets of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Jairo Perera, alias Muchachito Bombo Infierno, has created an unmistakable style that blends rumba, swing, funk and rock “n” roll with the boldness and freshness of live street performances. His personal trademark: guitar in hand, bass drum under his foot and an energy that turns every concert into a unique party.
He made his debut in 2005 with Vamos que nos vamos, followed by Visto lo visto (2007) and Idas y vueltas (2010), collaborating with artists such as Estopa and Soniquete de Jerez. In 2016, El Jiro arrived, and in 2023 he presented Qué puede salir mal, an album that condenses his ‘rumbaorleans’ spirit: contagious rhythm, witty lyrics and that touch of improvisation that means it never sounds the same.
Muchachito doesn’t just play, he builds his own musical universe: guitars, percussion and handmade gadgets, all at the service of connecting with his audience. His ‘One Man Band’ format and his show Historias de ser Muchacho are proof that his work is not just music: it is a life experience.
admira: When you’re looking for a new guitar, what matters most to you: the sound, the comfort, or the personality of the instrument?
Muchachito Bombo Infierno: I LOOK FOR THE ONE THAT SUITS ME BEST, WHILE I LOOK FOR THE BODY IN ITS SOUND, ESPECIALLY IN THE BASS. YOU COULD SAY BOTH.
admira: In your latest recordings, do you prefer the character of a flamenco guitar, acoustic versatility, or a hybrid that allows you to move between styles?
Muchachito Bombo Infierno: IN THE RECORDINGS, I HIDE ELECTRIC GUITARS UNDERNEATH, BUT THE ONE THAT CARRIES THE WEIGHT IS MY CLASSICAL GUITAR, WHICH IS ALWAYS IN CHARGE.
admira: If you had to define in a few words what you like most about the Alegría Flamenco Series, what would you say? — Its sound, its aesthetics or the freedom it gives you to improvise.
Muchachito Bombo Infierno: FOR ME, IT’S A NEW WORLD I’M ENTERING. I’VE BEEN WORKING WITH YOUR MATERIAL FOR YEARS, AND IN THE CLASSICAL GUITAR I FOUND THAT RESISTANCE AND FORCEFULNESS BROUGHT TO A ROCK STAGE.
I FIND THE FLAMENCO SERIES ELEGANT AND LIGHT, EASY AND ENJOYABLE TO PLAY AND AS IMPACTFUL AS APPEARING IN A NEW SUIT.
IN TERMS OF RESISTANCE, IT PASSES THE TEST WITH FLYING COLOURS.
admira: What musical plans do you have on the horizon? — New albums, collaborations or formats you want to explore.
Muchachito Bombo Infierno: I’M ALREADY PREPARING A NEW ALBUM. WHEN THE G5 AND BOMBO INFIERNO CONCERTS END THIS YEAR, WE’LL GET STARTED, ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A NEW SOUND THAT’S DIFFERENT FROM THE PREVIOUS ALBUM.
